Introduction

Shape the software architecture behind next-generation test and measurement instruments.

Tasks

• You will analyse the existing software architecture to assess its ability to integrate a new product group, while identifying required changes, technical debt and risks.
• Based on new product requirements, you will define architecture extensions and migration paths, including component-based modularisation, API contracts and compatibility rules.
• Interfaces will be defined in close collaboration with hardware, FPGA and algorithm teams.
• You will prioritise and plan architectural changes and provide a migration roadmap with risk assessments and minimally invasive transition paths.
• Architecture and design reviews will be led by you, while providing technical guidance and moderation across different disciplines.
• Developers will be coached by you on architecture principles, best practices and hardware-related software development.
• You will create and maintain architecture documentation, including C4, SysML or UML diagrams, API specifications, performance reports and acceptance criteria.
• You will develop Embedded Linux driver software, including user-space and kernel drivers/modules and hardware abstraction layers, while applying shift-left practices and AI-assisted tools for prototyping, test generation, documentation and quality assurance.

Qualifications

• A completed degree at Master’s level or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering or a related field is required.
• Several years of experience as a software architect or senior engineer in complex, product-oriented devices or systems are expected; experience with measurement instruments is a strong advantage.
• You have hands-on experience in hardware-related software development with modern C++ and are able to design stable and maintainable C++ APIs.
• End-to-end software architectures, from embedded or firmware layers to device services, GUIs and remote APIs, should be part of your experience.
• Good knowledge of build and release concepts, such as Yocto, Buildroot and cross-toolchains, is important, together with an understanding of CI/CD principles.
• Experience with C++ unit and integration testing, mocking, test automation, static analysis and profiling tools such as GoogleTest, Catch2, clang-tidy, sanitizers, perf or ftrace is expected.
• Requirements and systems engineering, including traceability from requirements to tests and the definition of clear acceptance criteria, should be familiar to you.
• Strong teamwork skills, a customer-oriented mindset and a structured, documentation-oriented working style are important. Experience with AI-assisted development tools and shift-left methods is desirable, and strong communication skills in German and English complete the profile
